Leader Volunteers
In order for this weekend to work, our volunteer leaders need to possess a reasonable amount of Lindy Hop experience. Ideally, you've danced for a few years and consider yourself to be at least comfortably intermediate and capable of cleanly leading a wide variety of standard Lindy Hop patterns and variations with solid technique, and WITHOUT EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION. These moves include swingouts, lindy circles, tuck turns, and side-passes, and you should be comfortable smoothly transitioning between six and eight-count patterns. If this is you, then you might be able to help us out and make a lot of ladies very happy.
NEW THIS YEAR: Leaders will be asked to give a reference when registering for the event. This should be the name and contact info of an instructor or experienced follower who can vouch for your ability to meet the requirements above.
Why volunteer?
Well, first of all you'd have the gratitude of a room-full of lovely and talented ladies. Then there's free admission to all three of our evening dances. For your edification there will be a free class especially for the volunteer leaders taught by Carl Nelson. And if you're looking for more focused instruction, all of our teachers and special guests are available for private lessons throughout the weekend.
What is required of a volunteer leader?
Fellas, you have to COMMIT. This whole weekend revolves around your interest in helping give our followers a perfect learning environment, which means you have to show up for every class that requires a partner. If you don't, it will damage our ratio and we will be forced to send out a posse after you. Also, if you register, we are counting on you not to cancel your registration at the last moment just because something else came up. Ladies appreciate guys who are trustworthy, so make us proud, and be a perfect volunteer!
Alright, you convinced me. Where do I sign up?
Leaders are invited to register using the exact same process as followers, with the same level of commitment, despite the fact that leaders will not be paying for the event. So, register online but don't send us any payment!
Note: You will be asked to register for a specific level just like the followers. This is NOT necessarily your level of dance ability. This reflects the classes for which you are choosing to volunteer (and for which you are qualified to volunteer!). (Although we will try to honor your preference, you may be asked to switch tracks if we need to re-balance the lead/follow ratio during the weekend.)
